Review: Holmris XTable by KiBiSi
Lately our office has been a joy to work in as I got a Holmris XTable for my computer desk. When choosing a height adjustable table I did not want another plug-in gadget with an electric motor so I went with the manual crank adjustable XTable.
The desk has been designed by a young Danish design firm KiBiSi. The designers have done a good job designing an elegantly minimalistic table that is also a joy to use. The height of the 160 x 80 cm (63″ x 31 ½”) desk can be adjusted between 63 and 120 cm (24 ¾” and 47 ¼”) by turning the crank. The crank is pleasantly light to turn even when the table is loaded with gadgets, laptops and whatnot. Some people have wondered if one would hit feet against the table legs when sitting, but due to the table legs being on the back side, this never happens. The table also rolls nicely on the floor with its wheels when adjusting the crank since the legs have small wheels against floor. The table has a cable routing and an under-the-table tray that help in hiding away the electric spaghetti.
The only small gripe I have has to do with the manufacturer. I got the table after months of waiting, apparently there were some delays with starting the production. The finish was not top notch: table edges had clearly visible glue stains and the crank even had some rust. Also, there were no assembly instructions provided. Fortunately both Holmris and our local dealer Modeo were willing to give a refund to compensate. I hope these glitches were only only because the product was just launched. Hopefully Holmris has already worked them out.
During the two months that I’ve used the table, I have found myself with the table adjusted for standing height for the most of the day. And when my feet start to ache, I turn the crank to quickly assume a high to low sitting position for the rest of the day. It is very easy to shuffle between different positions. The table keeps me active and mobile even when I work long days at the computer. All in all Holmris XTable by KiBiSi is a brilliant, cleverly designed desk that makes work at the computer much more pleasant.
Cons:
– The desk is rather heavy compared to a normal desk (albeit lightweight compared to electric desks).
– No assembly instructions provided
– Some issues with finishing
Pros:
+ Clever, stylish design
+ The desk is very sturdy, thanks to the x-structure
+ The table doesn’t need to be plugged in.
+ Turning the crank provides nice, light exercise during the work day
