The Little Caretaker – Pikku lomittaja

A participatory installation in Tampere, Finland, 2012

Ratina in Tampere is home to Villu Jaanisoo’s brilliant Rubber Duck -sculpture. During the summer of 2012 the Duck was taken temporarily to housing fair in Vuores so we brought a tiny rubber duck to serve as a caretaker. The Little Caretaker was designed to check if people notice changes in their everyday environment… and they did! We got a lot of positive feedback: people were highly amused to see the giant duck sculpture replaced by the Little Caretaker. We even got images of pets posing with the Little Caretaker. Also the local newspaper Aamulehti published an article about the mysterious caretaker.
