The first modules of The Movable Bilberry Pad are now ready. We planted the Siberian larch container modules with wild bilberries, lingonberries, crowberries and some other forest floor plants such as mosses and calluna.
Thank you for our sponsors Messupuu and Piiraisen Viherpalvelu and the project supporters Kone Foundation and the Finnish Cultural Foundation!
The competition entry by WSP Finland team, including Mieluisa, won the shared 1st prize in the Eco-efficient Restaurant Terrace ideas competition organized by Climate Street and the City of Helsinki. The aim of the competition was to find new eco-efficient ways to prolong the restaurant terrace season in the Nordic climate. Big congratulations to the other winners Urban Gardens Finland and Arkkitehtuuritoimisto IAH as well!
The Finnish Cultural Foundation has generously awarded a grant to our project The Nature Cots. With the grant we will build The Movable Bilberry Pad. Working together with Services for the Elderly in Kangasala, Finland, we will bring the Bilberry Pad to a service center for the elderly to enjoy and to engage with. A big Thank You for the Finnish Cultural Foundation!
We have started working on our Nature Cots project. The website is now live at NatureCots.fi! Nature Cots is an experimental project by Mieluisa. The aim is to bring intensive nature to the concrete jungle via small scale portable nature devices – Nature Cots.
A big thank you for our supporters Kone Foundation, The Arts Promotion Centre Finland and The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York!
Our balcony apple tree survived the harsh Finnish winter. Apparently the thermo pot really does work. Hooray!
[one_half]Wild Zone NGO and Mieluisa published a proposal for the development of Tammerkoski rapids in Tampere, Finland. In the proposal, the dams of the hydroelectric power plants will be demolished and the beautiful roaring rapids of the past will return. This way we can create a truly remarkable attraction where recreational activities connect with wild nature and national landscapes. The proposal (in Finnish, English version available on demand) can be downloaded here : Kuohujen paluu (PDF) The renderings (4000 px): Day (JPG) Night (JPG) More information: Wild Zone NGO[/one_half][one_half_last]Villi vyöhyke ry. ja Mieluisa julkaisivat tulevaisuudenkuvan Tampereen Tammerkosken kehittämisestä. Ehdotuksessa Tammerkosken voimalaitoksien padot puretaan ja virta vapautetaan jälleen ryöppyäväksi ja kuohuvaksi koskeksi. Näin luodaan kansainvälisen tason vetonaula, jossa yhdistyvät monipuoliset harrastusmahdollisuudet, villi luonto ja kansallismaisema. Ehdotus on ladattavissa tästä: Kuohujen paluu – Tulevaisuudenkuva Tammerkosken kuohujen vapauttamisesta (PDF) Havainnekuvat (4000 px): Päivä (JPG) Yö (JPG) Lisätietoa: Villi Vyöhyke[/one_half_last]
Living amidst a huge construction site can be painful. Mieluisa collected some complaint rants about living in Jätkäsaari, a new district of Helsinki that will be under construction for years to come. “The sidewalks and pedestrian crossings are not in use, how am I supposed to get home? The street is a puddle of dirt and holes! Why is there no green space?” and so on. The rants evolved into a humorous collection of poems (in Finnish) called Jätkäsaari Blues. How do you like your neighborhood?
